    They already gather and know this information. The quarterly survey shows Linux usage increasing consistently.

    What you’re proposing will just be noise/spam to their workflows.

    But why do this? They collect this data monthly, and Valve already does a lot for the linux ecosystem.

      Hell, I bet they have stats on exactly how many Linux users they have just based on how many people use proton.

    Thirding the statement that this is not going to help them in any way. Having worked on a help desk, this is just going to fill the support inbox with spam. They are not going to take this data and convert it to whatever format their database needs it as. They already have a proper channel to collect this automatically. They are going to delete the spam and possibly flag your account for spamming their support or for some other investigation for being a bot or something.

    Edit: Literally five seconds searching online for “Steam Hardware Survey” shows that it’s an opt in thing that gets sent to a random portion of steam users monthly where you can confirm you want to let it scan your PC or not. That’s how they collect the data on user machines, not randos sending diagnostic reports to the place meant for requeating help.
