• Not only that but it sounds like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are both (strategically) agreeing on supporting MTG on the question of Palestinian genocide.

Strange bedfellows, as they say. I don’t blame them though.

The idea that defensive weapons don’t expand your ability to kill is so obviously false. It’s disrespectful to expect people not to realize that.

The world has understand MAD for almost a century. Someone who feels safe from reprisal is more likely to engage in violence. Someone who knows they could be harmed in a fight is less likely to start one.

Fuck AOC, she’s not stupid, she knows this. She just literally doesn’t care about Israel committing genocide. Nazi enabler.

see, when countries do a genocide, they split all their weapons into two big piles labeled “Genocide” and “Not genocide”. The latter pile is cool and we should still be adding to it but we just got to stop the genocide pile from getting bigger

The idea that the Iron Dome is only a defensive system (strategically) is severely misguided. Israel is mostly free of consequences from its genocidal actions because the only way to hit them is through the Iron Dome, and it costs their enemies a very heavy premium to make the kinds of weapons that can get through it, even in the age of drone warfare. Countries shouldn’t be immune from consequences, especially when the Palestinians don’t have anything like the Iron Dome to defend them.

Honestly, I’m reaching the point where I just can’t hold out any hope for a politician unless they clearly state that Israel is an illegitimate state.

Cutting iron dome funding is good and necessary. It should have been done the second it was clear israel was fully genocidal this time around. She is and always was a zionist coward

Her pretense and excuses suggest more of a situation where she is trying to keep the mask on even though it’s obviously a mask though, right? That’s a different sort of shamelessness

okay… so why not vote for the amendment to cut off Iron Dome? or is her “worry” that with Iron Dome cut off in the bill, more of the House will vote to continue the bill which still includes munitions flow - to which she is against?

i’m being very charitable to her, but that seems to be what she’s arguing?

edit: she voted no on the full bill. a lot of people are being very bad-faith in this thread.

She’s openly admitting she supports sending weapons to Israel so Israel can continue to commit genocide. Nothing less.

My charitable take: Her worry is that in the event of Iron Dome funding being cut off, Israel would run a massive propaganda campaign blaming AOC specifically for every death in Israel.

However, If she truly believes what she says, I think she’s being very naive. The Iron Dome allows Israel to confidently bomb its neighbors without having to worry about consequences. No one is attacking Israel out of the blue (yes, that includes October 7th). Event the recent “war” with Iran was started by Israel.

The best defensive measures that Israel could take:

      1. Stop its apartheid and give every citizen equal rights
      2. Stop committing terror in the region (i.e. blowing up entire apartment buildings to kill one target, murdering all of the top scientists in a given country in their sleep, blowing up pagers of innocent doctors and surgeons in other countries, etc.)
      3. Surrender its current and former leadership to the ICC and allow them to face trial for their war crimes

Why would Israel only blame her specifically and not MTG and the others? Even as a charitable take it requires her to be some sort of lone warrior who is a bit unwilling to become a political martyr and yet this couldn’t be further from reality.

If anything wouldn’t that also be very good for her record e.g “Yes I single handendly voted against the genocide bill(s), yes I’m different, vote against me if you dare.” Isn’t that the whole point? Nah the point here is her complete cowardice to take an independent or even anti-dem stance.

Also goes without saying she continues to show lack of political instincts, now more than ever in July 2025 if you tell the average American “oh no the Iron Dome was cut off and some setter died” most people are likely to respond with “yeah, good. So anyway about [insert ICE or cost of living here issue here]”
