    [Removed by Reddit]

Been a minute since I’ve seen that. And that’s actually one huge advantage of the Fediverse. There can’t be a [Removed by Lemmy] because ‘Lemmy’ is a federation of servers with their own rules and regulations and aren’t even all based in the USA. And if any server starts these shenanigans, you can just move to another.

Although I do wish that profiles and comment history could be preserved from one server to another. That’s basically the last piece of the puzzle that would give the user a completely a completely free experience.

Lemmy added export data import data features I think. That’s plenty.

I’m not even sure on anonymous Internet forums what I would want to move.

Yeah it’s nice to be able to import your list of subscriptions at least. But for comment history, I guess it depends what you’re getting out of a place like this. On Reddit, I liked going back sometimes and seeing what I was posting a couple of years ago. Especially if it’s personal shit, or even old review posts for movies or whatever. I like having a stable online presence or identity with a history to refer to.

Huh, I’m the opposite. I wipe all my info every year just to prevent being tracked. If I want to remember something I save it to my note taking app.

I got an Orwellian warning from those motherfuckers at Reddit that said I upvote too many posts that “glorify violence”(!?!?). I guess because I believe all Nazis can die?

I’m finally out for good. If they want a safe space for the loser racists at /r/conservative they can have it!

Yeah, big time fuck reddit vibes over here. Had been a member for… um… like 18 years? Posting for 15 (I only know that for sure because I lost my original acct because Google are shitheads, but I can search the old username and see all of my 20 something (age) comments if I so desire. 😅). When fElon Must started talking about redditors being terrorists was the final straw, and I meticulously deleted every comment (thousands and thousands) I ever made, had like 100,000 comment karma 😔 and then deleted my acct. There is no publicly visible record my newer acct ever existed now. I miss how it used to be back in the aughts, was a seriously special place back then. The bots, and morons just got to be too much tho. I was dealing, but the last thing I’m willing to go down for is a shit load of benign but honest anti trump and must comments, freedom of speech my ass. It’s uterly insane what’s gone down in the last couple months in America. Just fucking bizarro world shit, tbs.

i had one for 11-12 years for sole purpose for a nintendo game, then i forgot i made various throwaways and sub specific accts, to avoid invasive bans, personally thier bans are way to harsh for the slightest mishapp, it all started with trump the first time around, he just made every site too overly sensitive on what they can ban. not only were they targeting “conservative trolls” but now you cant even imply “something should happen” to said gop, conservative. my funniest response i got was, your not allowed to use “black, or demographic, because that sounds racist” also if you accidentally use the wrong word like “her or him on a transgendered person”. while when trolls imply violence on "left leaning " people they almost never get removed or dont eradicate that behaviour.

With a quick google, what are the chances that erm71 is code for “Elon Reeve Musk 1971”.
There no way that a tech savvy individual would do something as simple as use his name and DOB for usernames and email addresses… Whats his password “teslarulez1971!”?

And why not? You forget there is beauty in brevity.

A breach is a breach is a breach is a breach. You’d be criticizing his choice whether it was 5 simple characters or 500. When you K.I.S.S. it makes it easier to remember AND quicker to enter, access. I had to choose a password for work once, and I made it a little complex…work constantly logged me out 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄…I had to enter that stupid fucking password so many fucking times, yes, it was secure. It was also DUMB and FRUSTRATING. Next 3 passwords were far simpler to repeatedly type in; I learned my lesson.

Same with Apple always auto-generating stupid passwords, I hope you never have to type them in! It’s just dumb, as illustrated by XKCD.

XKCD also has a suggestion for strong, memorable, easy passwords.

Be smart. Make life simple. Don’t do stupid things. 🫡

The IT sector is disproportionately Indian, and Musk is a strong supporter of outsourcing H1B visa employees.

That is extremely condescending toward H1B holders. And I’m not a proponent of the program.

Id challenge you to say that statement to an HB colleague and see how they take it.

If I could either work for 30k at home or do a 140k job abroad for 80k I would willingly get ripped off and exploited. It doesn’t make it less bullshit that we don’t offer such talented folks citizenship and a fair wage.

It is interesting that Reddit took it upon themselves to remove it. They are government employees, those aren’t their private addresses, but end with “.gov”. This seems to be public data.

but it’s fascism time; bootlickers gonna bootlick. gotta protect the fascists from judgment by the people. expect less and less transparency moving forward, all sorts of public information getting concealed, and both mainstream media and social media corporations helping them.

Genuinely curious how knowing personal emails would be useful as opposed to the work emails. I’m not even sure how knowing the work emails is useful, but I’m always eager to be educated.

Well, not that I approve of the practice, but you could find site logins that the email is used in, breaches that it’s been in (potentially finding (old) passwords).

With that info, if not for identity theft directly, can be used for fishing and profiling.

Ah, gotcha. I picked up a reddit permaban for mentioning in a comment that someone else in another sub had found the initial 4 DOGE kiddos’ phone numbers and parents’ addresses by viewing their public social media profiles and GitHubs. Played with the idea of sending each of them No Thank You cards in the mail, but the permaban made me hesitant to dish out more mischief.
