Not the return of fascism? Antivax? Billionaires? Climate change disasters?

One of, but it’s a bit down the list, no?

has advocated for stronger Church action against climate change, stating in a November 2024 seminar that “dominion over nature” should not be “tyrannical”

“A main challenge” doesnt mean the only challenge

AI use is tied to climate change, at least.

      Also, this is somewhat encouraging:

The after-lunch outing came after Leo presided over his first formal audience, with the cardinals who elected him pope. In it Leo repeatedly cited Francis and the Argentine pope’s own 2013 mission statement, making clear a commitment to making the Catholic Church more inclusive and attentive to the faithful and a church that looks out for the “least and rejected.”

      From Francis’ 2013 statement:

In the text, Francis denounced trickle-down economic theories as unproven and naive, saying they are based on a survival of the fittest mentality “where the powerful feed upon the powerless” with no regard for ethics, the environment or even God.

“Money must serve, not rule!” he said in calling for political leaders to reform the system. “The Pope loves everyone, rich and poor alike, but he is obliged in the name of Christ to remind all that the rich must help, respect and promote the poor.”

Ehhhh… He’s not wrong. AI is going to be a bigger deal than all of those. ASI has the potential to fix those other issues or be an even bigger problem than any of them. One way or another, the world won’t be the same after it arrives.

AI is going to be a bigger deal than the extinction of the human race due to infinite amounts of corporate greed?

You think there is something MORE pressing than literal extinction? That’s quite something

Yes, because the extinction of the human race due to a catastrophic AI scenario could happen even sooner than climate change could kill us all.

It’s not unrealistic for a dipshit fascist to put an ai in charge of a nuclear arsenal and for it to destroy the world because of a passing red balloon. That said, the ai is quite a few steps down the line of things that need to be delt with in that chain.

What, is the AI going to dump a trillion tons of carbon dioxide into the air to cause a catastrophic runaway greenhouse effect, making huge swathes of the earths prime agricultural regions uninhabitable and forcing hundreds of millions of people to flee to other countries, emboldening fascist movements that seize on the fear of migrants and the strain on local resources, while increasing heat means more frequent super storms that destroy infrastructure while much of the global coasts are submerged, crippling international trade and driving famines and resource shortages on critical goods like medicine?

lol AI (even if we get anything approaching AI) will be in the hands of capitalists. they’re the ones to fear. hell doesnt come from outside, stop with this nonsense. we already have hell at home.

You don’t know what the terms you’re using even mean. We have AI. We don’t have AGI or ASI. Since you don’t even know what those terms mean, it’s pointless debating you.

    I kinda like this guy

I think ai could be really great, but it depends on the use case and one who’s using it. Like ai drug development is gunna be great, but no one wants ai drones
