The Longhorns’ ranking is the highest since the 2010 BCS National Championship Game

My reaction: In what catastrophic way do we fuck this up?

Also, as always there’s some dumb things going on here. Like how LSU moves up but the team they lost to moves down (and Alabama and Texas do the inverse). And Tulane and Clemson, both of whom lost to ranked teams, are left out while teams like Iowa and UCLA are ranked without being really tested. The c/cfb ranking is the only real poll!

FSU barely squeaked by Boston College while LSU absolutely demolished Mississippi State. I think those rank changes makes sense, at least.

Why do I think we’re going to basically crap it all away either against Kansas or in the Red River game? If we somehow exit the 0U game undefeated, I think we’ll be fine until Tech comes to Austin at the end of the season. Tech is some weird, voodoo shit.

Now hold on now, don’t get any crazy ideas. I don’t want to be ranked in any poll just to get blown out at home by an FSU team that almost lost to a bad BC team. If we win, we probably deserve a rank again but it’s better to be an unranked team vs a Top 4 opponent to put more pressure on them instead of us.

      Example: 11 Tennessee @ Florida

And I definitely believe that Duke is only ranked because of beating us anyways which isn’t really a good win yet.

I was trying to have a nice relaxing Orange Bowl but we don’t always get what we want 🥲 I’ll be rooting for Tennessee the rest of the season though for sure.

Oh absolutely for your team you want to stay unranked (both to stay under the radar for the competition and to light a fire under Dabo’s ass to live in the 21st century). But as a neutral observer, I’m just pointing out flaws in the poll if it’s resume-based (or even per the “eye test”).

Duke is only ranked because of beating us

Now this is where I’m going to disagree with you. They went 9-4 last year and all those losses were by 1 score. They returned a sizable amount of production. My pre-season ranking had them at 17 so seeing them at 18 in the AP poll feels right. (Now my computer ranking has them at 10 which is absolutely overrated, but that’s one of the quirks in the model that will soon iron out.)

I guess I’m just used to ACC teams being bad as a whole. I still think of Duke as a bottom-tier ACC team and I do forget that they won 9 games last year after going 3-9 and 2-9 the two seasons before that.

You have a good point. At this point in the season, they do deserve a ranking especially considering they are undefeated.

I can’t believe we’re still #2 after that game. It’s like the voters looked at the score instead of watching the Michigan game.

Texas was tied with Wyoming in the 4th and FSU barely survived against BC. I’d say Michigan looked the best of the three.
