      Especially in a time where communication was sparse and took a while. So many women have been an important part of science, many were probably never even documented.

      He postulated the greenhouse effect but I think it was warming air not CO2 that he was musing about. Foote seems to be the first to link CO2.

        Sounds like the name of a researcher with a French last name, who, likely being a scientist, would have conducted their research under routinely strict (i.e. not liberal) controls.

        He discovered that the earth is as warmer than it should be rather than freezing. The greenhouse effect is fundamental to our existence. No bad for a scientist in the 1820s.
