The US Department of Justice has released the transcript and audio recording of an interview conducted by Todd Blanche, the deputy attorney general, with the convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.

Maxwell, in the released transcript, said that she never saw Trump do anything inappropriate and she repeatedly showered Trump with praise. That sort of comment would have been welcomed by Trump and his circle who have been keen to dismiss concerns about this relationship with Epstein which have roiled his support base.

“I actually never saw the president in any type of massage setting. I never witnessed the president in any inappropriate setting in any way. The president was never inappropriate with anybody,” Maxwell said.

“I never saw the man from whom I’m seeking a presidential pardon in any inappropriate setting. He’s actually a very stable genius.”

We can all see the bullshit for what it is, and it will probably still work because this country’s stupid as hell.

There’s a huge difference between just being stupid versus “willful ignorance.” Most people aren’t that dumb - they’re just assholes practicing the latter (which admittedly can be considered “stupid” in the long run, but I think that qualifies more as “short-sighted & self-centered” IMHO).

I don’t mean people are stupid literally. I mean the country is in a farcical position with criminal leadership.

The country was always controlled by thuggish idiots.

The presidency has been mostly a figurehead of a barely controlled mob of the powerful, ever fighting with each other.

Now there is more profit to be made from this sort of dysfunction, instead of the appearance of a well run nation.

          This is simply capitalism

It’s a country where the first president was a slave owner, and has slavery embedded into its founding. So you’re of course correct. We are just wavering between levels of “awful” and “very awful.”
