Japan's antitrust watchdog Thursday unveiled draft guidelines for the law governing smartphone software services of U.S. tech giants Google LLC and Apple Inc., aiming to promote competition from smaller firms.
I wish, but this seems specifically aimed at smartphones only. However, this could open the door for Nintendo to make their own eshop for Android or Apple, and I suspect that’s what the gov is going for because it would directly benefit Japanese companies at the expense of foreign ones.
They do make games for phones though. I haven’t heard of any in a while but I remember some dust being kicked up about Mario coming to smartphones about a decade ago.
Does that mean I can get a 3rd party eShop on my Nintendo Switch? 😆
Ha, that would be excellent. Don’t forget Sony and PlayStation.
Haha yeah sure. That will never happen.

Why would Nintendo want a shop on Android and Apple? They don’t own those platforms…
They sell games on those platforms
They would love to not give a cut

I’m on my phone now actually. Let me look.
Yep.
Huh, I never knew. That’s interesting!
Yes you can! And Nintendo will then sue your ass off :-D
