I’m using it as shorthand for all the obvious criminality of the man. To elaborate, he’s a rapist, a 34 time convicted felon who steals from charity, cheats students, stiffs everyone he owes, a man who stole our national secrets, salutes and uplifts dictators, has expressed his desire to be one multiple times on the campaign trail, cages children and ran campaign focused solely on retribution and outright lies about immigrants, women and minorities.

This was an argument that could have been made during his first run; but this time, we all knew exactly what we were voting for.

You would think people would learn that republicans tend to wreck the economy just for democrats to fix it, and republicans to shit all over any progress that’s been made again, but just like dogs aren’t smart enough to learn that a snake bite’s venomous bite could kill them an hour later, Americans can’t seem to grasp the concept of economic momentum and that changes made in one term may not be immediately fixed - especially if the previous guy smeared his shit all over the bathroom walls before he left. It’s understandable it will take some time to clean up.

I totally understand why it happened, and yeah, I agree it was economic issues, and inflation and so forth. And I even agree it’s not an America thing. This is just a human thing, and humans by and large are kinda awful.

this is because people want easy, quick answers that make them feel good. An old comment of mine from this site sums it up:

Do you think for a second that trump will be able to be pressured into anything that isn’t his own self interest.

I was with you for the first election, but every last person who voted for him, or who felt like it wasn’t worth getting off the couch to prevent trump is responsible for this, full stop. I’m so goddamned tired of people acting like not a single person had any agency in this, like we had two equal but opposite choices. No, this one was easy and obvious and we just showed the world our true colors.

God I am so tired of the post-mortems already. everyone is so obsessed to find the one little things that they did wrong. What was the one weird trick that could have shown america the correct path.

This time it was beyond obvious. This country simply wanted a rapist, a criminal, they wanted a man who praises dictators and has proclaimed that he is going to be one (good luck with that 1 day thing). Enough Americans looked at the two choices and the majority of this country decided to give fascism a try.

No point in hiding for 4 years, shits not going to be the same when you come out. The only thing we can do is get the fuck out or stay and fight. Shit’s gone get real bad if we all just hide. Pretty much what caused the issue since I feel like we all have been since Covid.

truth be told, the only reason I would be even remotely interested in the device is the stupid laser projector. Seems like that might be fun to play with.

turnip is turnip, just because he doesn’t exactly display the hallmarks of a previous person, doesn’t mean he’s not also a thing. he’s populist because he’s running an empty campaign with no actual plans. there’s nothing behind any of the things he’s promising, he’s just promising them because he thinks it can get him elected.

I mean, he’s promised no income tax, tax breaks, no tax on tips, etc. none of it is backed by any policies, only, “trust me, it’s gonna be great”. when I talk populist, I mean specifically this sort of behavior, I don’t think for one second that he actually cares about enacting any of it short of doing things that will make people like him. I honestly believe that once the rubber meets the road, and he either does his mass deportations and the nation suddenly realizes why it’s a terrible idea or he doesn’t because it’s such a stupid idea and his mouthbreathing supporters turn on him. repeat ad nauseam for any of the other insane things that he’s promising.

the same argument can be made that he’s not a fascist, he’s not doing exactly the same things as previous fascist regimes right?

well, I didn’t say there would be a civil war. I can’t say I can forsee all the mechanics but as far as I’m concerned, there is a slow motion coup happening now. do you think for one second that they won’t try to do everything possible to rig things in their favor, do you think for one second that they are not already trying?

In the end, a populist agenda like he’s running, where he will say and promise anything to anyone, simply cannot be worked. his base isn’t even a majority but the stupid system we have will let minority rule. so, I simply do not believe enough americans will fall in line, his obstinate supporters aren’t capable enough of holding the system together. I wish I knew what the fate would be, I just don’t see a good one.

Again, I am 100% hoping that I’m full of shit, that I’m deranged and paranoid. I honestly hope this is a me problem.

right, I imagine the job will be finished. I mean, they always want a government so small as to drown it in a bathtub, but in reality they just want all the control. I just cannot imagine that turnip can hold togethether the coalition he’s trying to build and a populist agenda is unworkable in practice. So I think at least a north/south divide will happen, but we’re so fractured and fragmented that I could see additional pockets breaking off if that happens.

I do not have a detailed map for how it happens, I just think he’s polarizing enough, and looking to change enough that we will not have a recognizable country.

I sincerely hope that I am just overly paranoid and falling vicitm to a derangement syndrome but given how it went, how it ended, and expecially considering the rhetoric coming out of the campaign, I have little.

I honestly don’t think it matters. I believe turnip will sweep in project 2025 plans, we already know the supreme court is fully in his bag. My personal belief is that if he’s elected, our contry is on course for a soviet style breakup.

I don’t get the decision matrix of these folks. if we’re after effective action, we know for 100% certainty that a 3rd party will not get elected in this nation right now. so, the decision should be who is going to be easier, better or more effective to work with, and I see zero choice when faced with this reality.

I wholeheartedly, 100% would LOVE to have a socialist candidate elected (not even because I’m a socialist, I just want all the ideas to be weighed, and that’s why we have checks and balances). I just am tired of folks who let perfect be the enemy of good.

I honestly thought it was common knowledge that these things were essentially free labor for training AI.

I am a huge fan of immich, been running it for quite a while, it started as just phone photo backup but it’s good enough that I’ve made it my primary photo repository (fully backed up of course). I will absolutely pay for a license but count me as one who doesn’t really like the terminology used.

I would happily put a donated or supporter badge to show off, but the unlicensed just feels a bit wrong. I have no trouble paying for software, especially as useful as immich, but in the enshittifying world we live in, such language gives one pause.

I would love to try one. Not for $3500.

There was a short lived candybar called PB Max that I’ve been craving for like the last 20 years. It actually tasted like peanut butter which, despite my love for peanut butter cups, just completely outdid them for peanutty goodness.
