I only find the theory/lore for the first few games to be kinda interesting and even then, it felt shallow and later on just felt like it was jumping a shark.

Don’t App developers need to pay for Reddit’s API which is why the Reddit boycott started in the first place? I doubt an open source client would really want to pay for a API so you had to stick with two apps unfortunately…
My only guess is that there wasn’t much outcry for Valve to do it for Germany compare the UK’s Online Safety Act
It depends on which user and their workflow. For example, Graphics Designer use Photoshop compare to GIMP because of native CMYK for printing as well as non-destructive effects. Most people will be fine using GIMP.
I bring this up as I tend to see people on Lemmy and even in online space that talks about open source that would bitch about “normies” being too stubborn for not trying Linux or any open-source projects in general but never think about how much compromise they had to do if they do go down the open-source route.
I hadn’t tried it but maybe give this Desktop Environment a try? It’s called Enlightenment.
