I can see how that phrasing could be problematic and ableist.
On the other hand, I could see that although support providers need to do better, support services do have benefits that could be useful, and it would be better to provide those services earlier rather than forcing students to struggle through school without accommodation.
As an autistic person myself, I can’t imagine anything more off-putting than having something police my behavior with the tirelessness of technology.
Also, people love to use “protecting the children” as an excuse to do unethical things.
There is a 0% chance they won’t try to use this on autistic adults in the workplace and such, even if discrimination laws are passed against the practice.

This is interesting, as there are plenty of other celebrities who have a sort of “cult of personality” like this. I could be misinformed but Donald Trump and Oprah Winfrey come to mind. I wonder what kind of phenomenon causes this and if there is any psychological research behind that.
