  • Best: distant cousins fancy wedding at a seaside place somewhere in Massachusetts. Been a while. Wedding was expensive, but not long. Reception was at a yacht club right on the ocean. So beautiful, food was fantastic, they had a wide variety of desserts, not just wedding cake, fun DJ, coffee cart with everything you could want. I was awkward 19 year old and some pretty girl wanted to dance with me which NEVER happens. Was a nice confidence lift–until dancing because I dance like a complete imbecile. Still worth it.

Worst was high school friends wedding, not long after high school graduation. They were young. Married in tired old church a mile from where we went to school (rural, poor). Was summer, no ac because poor. Reception was in bingo hall/basketball gym next door to church where we had junior high dances. Food was mad gross, came from nasty restaurant down the street. Just country slop. Tables were literally folding tables with a sheet of white paper on them and a tiny bit of confetti. No flowers, no other decorations. They did have a plastic disposable cup of mixed nuts. Cup was the size of a salsa side. My brother sat down, ate the whole thing in one mouthful so that was that. He also used the disposable cameras left (no photographer) to take a pixture of his ass. DJ was a relative who played garbage music that was just what he (in his late 50s) liked so it was ass. His setup was old and sounded like shit, did not help that the space was tile floor and cinderblock walls so it was an echoy mess. Then he got super drunk less than an hour in and left–took his shitty equipment with him. Bride is pissed (but it was her uncle) so someone found a boombox and put the bingo announcer microphone in front of it. It sounded just like you would think. I left at that point, had enough. They’re still married, she’s still a shrew, hes OK i guess but never understood that relationship. I’m pretty sure there is a dom/sub sex thing going on, she’s the dom (frequently wearing tall black leather boots even when its hot out or would seem out of place). To each their own, they’ve been married for 30 years, so something is working.

  • I am 99% certain that our house is the only one in the neighborhood that doesn’t use chemlawn. Springtime is dandelion season and its great. Now the clover is in full effect. I love that the bees and bunnies are going to chow town. Gonna hit the back yard next spring with the microclover. I’d love to get the point of a monthly mow. I hate grass and mowers. If I could let it go full meadow I totally would. Mainly because I know it pisses off all the old buzzards who have nothing to do beyond sweep their driveway 3 times a day.

  • The hell with raw doggin life.

I think of it like sunlight. In videos from space, you can see the sun without the filter of our atmosphere. It is the harshest evil white burning light you can imagine. However, because of our delightful atmosphere, we get golden hour evenings, pink sunsets, warm mornings.

Life without pills is like sunlight without atmosphere.

  • Gonna make myself unpopular here. No to Bosch. Overpriced and overhyped. You pay a premium and get little in return. I installed my own and rather than just connecting the power to a standard electrical connection, you have to (or you have to pay someone) to wire in a proprietary electrical connection box. The dishwasher has a special cable that connects to their weird receptacle. No idea why, helps nothing, adds labor without benefit. Bosch dishwashers do not use heating coils to dry the dishes. They use the residual heat of the water to dry. My experience is that this is not very effective as well as slow. Some have a means to ventilate themselves (fans, mechanism to open door, etc). This helps, but adds complexity, failure points and is still slow. I gave up after my last (third one) Bosch would not clean nor dry properly after it was about four years old. Took it apart, cleaned crud out of pump and bottom end. Came to conclusion that the pump was no longer able to move water at a sufficient pressure to spray the dishes. Was more of a weak sprinkler effect. No idea why it would not dry. It never dried well from the beginning.
I have since switched to a whirlpool (kitchen aid) with a heating coil. One year in being run 2x a day and no issues so far. Dishes are clean and dry. Bought a simpler model without nonsense like wifi, apps, lights, floor projection or anything else. I run one setting: auto.

  • Of all the fucking things. I hate running so much. Ran for years, hated it the whole time. Finally just couldn’t do it anymore. Was so sock of sore knees and shins, never mind being out in the damn cold before work on a gross winter day, dark, gray, wet. I hated getting up extra early before work and then having to jam in a shower and THEN start the day. I am so envious of people who find it enjoyable. They’re so happy on their run, feeling good, satisfied with what they did. Hell, they go and do crazy things like marathons, 5ks etc. Such a foreign concept.

I dont feel better having stopped, but the thought of doing it again just fills me with dread.

Why can’t they discover that reading a book while listening to music is fantastic for you?

  • Last thing I played was Inside. Being an adult with a family and demanding work leaves little free time. Some house project always seems to pop up. I feel guilty taking a lot of time to fuck off. Reading a book feels like a better way to spend free time, also more enriching. When I play a game, it is an indulgence like eating candy. I’m at the age where I want more than just consuming media. I’d rather learn something or make something. Also, I’m way out of touch with gaming culture and unlikely to catch up.
