Very cool, and thank you for taking the time to make such a detailed post!
I waddled onto the beach and stole found a computer to use.

Note: I’m moderating a handful of communities in more of a caretaker role. If you want to take one on, send me a message and I’ll share more info :)
Very cool, and thank you for taking the time to make such a detailed post!
If you are using any Synology products with your setup, you should go ahead and apply the recommended updates
I’d imagine it’s the same as personal finance apps. A spreadsheet can be enough, and it is enough for a lot of people, but a custom app can make things easier:
etc.
Something being FOSS doesn’t necessarily mean it’s safe / ethical, but a LOT of FOSS apps are designed with those principles in mind.
However, being FOSS means that if an app claims that it is safe / ethical (ex. In this case, not storing data anywhere but on your device), you or an experienced peer can check the code to verify that fact.
It might cause federation issues down the road, especially with interactions between different platforms
Very cool! This could go in [email protected] as a post of its own
Very cool, thank you for the detailed breakdown that was helpful!
Oh wow, I assumed they were related :)
Good note, I didn’t notice that in the original post. I edited the title
I loved the translucent things (or even pure transparent)
Found an article with a few more

I wonder if there is any pattern to those numbers
edit: ah I didn’t notice, thanks all :)
There was the attack on the Internet archive recently, are there any good options out there to help mirror some of the data or otherwise provide redundancy?
One option that I’ve heard of in the past
ArchiveBox is a powerful, self-hosted internet archiving solution to collect, save, and view websites offline.
Reading comments on Lemmy / Reddit mostly. I’m not looking for the top voted answer but rather the points that people mention and considering what’s important to me. If possible I also check with friends that might have purchased something similar
Overtime I’ll use Reddit less and less, given that they’re now actively telling businesses to take advantage of that effect. Old comments are still ok, but new comments are all suspect

What a mess.
I started using this recently and it seems to work pretty well. I’d love to know more about how they pick out the topics

Lol the diagram
I’m not sure if this counts, but I’ve enjoyed some pieces from The Conversation. They’re detailed and written by someone who has experience in the subject
I think it’s just for comments?
I’ve been wanting the same for posts for some time now
You could try posting in [email protected] as well!
Yup, and if you find that it’s still not enough then you can add more friction.
For example, if there is a certain subreddit that you go to a lot and don’t want to, block that subreddit at the browser level.
You could block the entire website, but you don’t want to get into the habit of unblocking things (ex. If you need to access a post with some resource, after coming across it when searching). Better to block what you need to block, instead of overdoing it.
