  • Every time I watch that movie I wonder how it got made. The elevator pitch for it is terrible. The story is corny and confusing, and it’s so unnecessarily expensive. The cast, sets, and costumes are all so over the top for something so campy. Apparently it only made back 80% of its $35M budget in the box office (Empire Strikes Back came out the same year with a $23M budget).

It really shouldn’t exist and there’s nothing quite like it. I think I love it for that reason alone.

  • This is a bit optimistic. It’s amazing that the tools exits to create a better, more open internet. However, the biggest barrier is convincing people to use them.

Personally, I’ve found that convincing the average user of just how much they are being taken advantage of by big tech is much harder than it should be. People are addicted to the convenience that lured them into these proprietary platforms in the first place. Humans tend to choose easier options over healthier options.

We should continue to carry the flag of open source, decentralization, and privacy-respecting platforms. However, we should be prepared that people will look at it an go… “Nah, that sounds hard. I’ll let them sell my data to save a few clicks.”

  • At this point, Star Wars is just a setting. The reason Star Wars shows/movies continue to be so divisive is because people expect the tone/genre of their favorite piece of Star Wars content.

For example, expecting to like Acolyte because you liked Rogue One is ridiculous. They have almost nothing in common. You wouldn’t expect to like Dr Strange because you liked Dunkirk.

Just because it has a Star Wars brand on it doesn’t mean it will be anything like other things with the Star Wars brand. Expecting that will lead to disappointment.
