I don’t consider myself to be any type of greedy, but that’s how I ran my business. At least 97% of my clients were regulars, and almost all were recommended by a neighbor or coworker. I did very little advertising, but was busy 12-16 hours a day, every day.

And the ability to switch browser engines on the fly. That was a great feature.

Personally, I would be irritated to be signed up for an instance I didn’t choose and may not be what I like, especially if the app hid the fact that I had a choice.

I thought Mogeek used its own engine, and I know Yacy does.

I felt weird about it when my dad used this 23andMe service. He was very privacy-conscious, so it was uncharacteristic for him. Now he’s dead. I wonder if there’s still any way to get it deleted.

You can set your phone to do that, of course, but I prefer not to have to unlock mine when I’ve just used it.

I use Paranoid’s Pal, a similar app. It’s great. In addition to locking in response to motion, I have it set to automatically lock the phone a few minutes after the screen turns off.

I believe Reddthat federates with everything.

Failing the captcha doesn’t mean you lose your user name. I failed a few times. There’s a button you can click to generate a new captcha so you can try again.
